Force Controlled Semi-active Damping in Vehicle Suspension Systems
Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to examine the effects of a force controlled semi-active damping scheme on various suspension performance criteria. The first section is devoted to the development of a mathematical model for purposes of dynamic analysis. Also included is a brief introduction to three basic control laws, culminating in the introduction of force controlled semiactive damping. Results of a computer simulation of the dynamic performance of a vehicle suspension system with a force controlled semi-active element concludes the section. The second section of the paper is a detailed explanation of an experimental test rig and data acquisition procedure that may be used to verify experimentally the results obtained through computer simulation of the same control strategy.
