The project celebrates and explores the post-industrial site of La Escocesa, one of many factory complexes that make up portions of the urban fabric of Barcelona. During the 19th century industrial revolution, the city of Barcelona expanded outward as factory complexes, or industrial colonies, emerged throughout the city. During the ensuing decades, these various industrial sites became vacant and received little to no maintenance. The Barcelona Municipality has plans and projects to create areas of new centrality through the urban regeneration of these old industrial complexes. Therefore, by reinvigorating the industrial site of La Escocesa, the city of Barcelona could further reclaim its industrial heritage and transform the site into a new urban catalyst / public hub for gastronomy, technology, and innovation.
