In this lecture, students learn the differences between primary and secondary literature, and they start to develop skills to recognize those differences as they do their own literature searches. The importance of distinguishing between primary and secondary sources is developed through a discussion of how citation plagiarism contributed to the opioid crisis by inflating the significance of a non-peer-reviewed reference.
