This presentation was given at the 2013 Popular Culture Association Annual Conference. It analyzes how 21st century portrayals of Lewis Carroll's Alice have produced a more adult, sexualized, violent figure who engages with standard fantasy tropes. At the same time, this new Alice is often imbued with a strong sense of independence and autonomy.
