Abstract
This thesis presents a working prototype of an interactive electronic children's book titled The Twilight Prince. This product and the analysis of the creative and technical process involved in its development are designed to contribute to the emerging medium of digital interactive narrative. A review of the established models of interactive narrative illustrates the narrow range of development to date. The purpose of this thesis is to examine some aspects of the medium that may be valuable but have not been commonly employed in the past. This work presents a prototypical approach for individual authors based on the character space model. This model provides a structure that can integrate interactivity into an electronic book in a way that supplements the narrative meaning of the work, yet remains feasible for individual authors. It is also designed to emphasize the value of artistic intent in digital narratives designed for children. By drawing from the roots of the traditional children's picture book, the medium of interactive electronic narrative has the potential to become a powerful new art form.
