Using a local flavor SU(4) invariant Lagrangian, we study the interactions of charmed meson with pion, rho meson, and kaons. The coupling constants are determined either empirically or from relations based on the SU(4) symmetry. Form factors are introduced at interaction vertices to take into account the finite hadron sizes. The cross sections for charmed meson scattering by pion, rho, and kaon are then evaluated with different values for the cutoff parameters in the form factor. It is found that the cross sections are sensitive to the cutoff parameter. With reasonable cutoff parameters, we find that these cross sections all have values between 10 and 20 mb. The main contributions are from diagrams involving light meson exchanges.en
