| dc.description.abstract | Previous researchers have developed the idea that cultural values are reflected in human acts and artifacts. Some knowledge about mainstream values in a society can be gained by analyzing human artifacts such as architecture styles and newspapers. Many conflicts in ideologies and cultures have arisen between China and the United States since World War II. Recent studies reveal that great changes are occurring in China's society and Sino-US relationships since China implemented reform and opening-up policies in 1978. However, previous researchers did not try to explore these changes from a multiplex perspective of architectural styles and communication contents. Through examining the coverage of skyscrapers in the People's Daily, a newspaper from the People's Republic of China, and the New York Times, a newspaper from the United States, this study aims to find patterns of American and Chinese cultural values in both countries. | en |
