Abstract
This thesis provides a process for a computer generated (CG) effects animator wishing to produce computer generated explosive effects using Alias|Wavefront Power Animator and Composer software. A study of the physical phenomena of real explosions is conducted in order to produce a convincing explosive effect with a computer. A description of the current state of the art provides current achievements by industry and individual artists. A tutorial focusing on modeling, lighting, and setting up animation controls for explosive effects provides step by step instruction for producing an explosive effect in Alias|Wavefront Power Animator and Composer. The tutorial also explains how real explosions influence the animating process of CG explosive effects, and provides key tips for generating realistic CG explosive effects.
