dc.description.abstractThe development of epigenetic tools and techniques raphics. forms an integral part of the cotton genome mapping efforts. The published RFLP linkage map comprises 41 linkage groups of which 14 of the 26 chromosomes are at least partially identified in terms of linkage group associations, leaving some linkage groups not localized to the chromosomes. Monosomes and monotelodisomes used for creating the RFLP map are limited in terms identifying remaining chromosomes. We discuss new approaches of integrated mapping by deriving chromatin deficiency epigenetic stocks from existing reciprocal translocation stocks, namely, duplication-deficient segmental aneuploids and tertiary lonesomes. Interspecific F1 hybrids from crosses between segmental aneuploid Upland cotton (G. hirsutum) and G. barbadense 3-79 present highly polymorphic mapping populations. Cytogenetic analysis and RFLP tests of these stocks have helped to (1) characterize the interspecific [] stocks, (2) localize some of the anonymous RFLP linkage groups to specific chromosomes, and (3) delimit the breakpoints in interchanges.en
