dc.description.abstract | Wavelets are being widely used in the area of signal compression and have given very good results but a lot of attention has been given to image compression and audio compression but not to speech compression in particular. This work explores the use of wavelets in speech compression by developing a speech codec using the Discrete Wavelet Transform. The performance of this codec for different wavelet functions has been analyzed. The codec developed is based on subband coding and ADPCM. The performance of this codec has also been compared to the one developed in [1], which makes use of FIR filters for subband coding. | en |
