dc.description.abstractSerum samples were collected from 500 feral swine in 34 Texas counties. Swine Brucellosis (SB) testing with the standard brucellosis card test (CT) and the particle concentration fluorescence immunoassay (PCFIA) test, and pseudorabies (PRV) testing with the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) test were performed at the State-Federal Diagnostic Laboratory in Austin, Texas. Supplemental PRV testing with the serum neutralization (SN) test was performed at the Texas Veterinary Medical Diagnostic Laboratory in College Station, Texas. The prevalence of SB in this study was 0.0%. The overall prevalence of PRV was 17.4%. Chi-Square analysis indicated that the distribution of PRV prevalence in feral swine was dependent on region, season, and domestic swine population density and PRV prevalence, but independent of the sex of sampled hogs. The prevalence of PRV in feral swine appeared to be inversely related to domestic swine population density and PRV prevalence. This study suggests that feral swine have a limited probability of transmitting these diseases to domestic swine at this time.en
