dc.description.abstract | Experimental results including stiffness and damping coefficients of an ER Damper with two types of ER fluid, 350CS and 10CS viscosity, respectively, are presented as well as the rotordynamic performance of the ER damper in the form of rotor orbits and runup unbalance responses. The results show that the ER fluid with less viscosity and high yield shear stress at zero field strength has the better characteristics for the ER damper. Homemade ER fluids worked effectively in this study. A feedback control system incorporated with the ER damper is established for the purpose of improving the rotordynamic performance of the rotor-bearing system. An "ON" and "OFF" simple control logi- . is developed and works effectively. The runup responses of the rotor-bearing system agree well with the desired response curves. Based on the experimental study, a possible practical ER damper with a parametric control system is presented. | en |
