dc.description.abstract | Flowshops are characterized by a series of machines through which several products are processed unidirectionally. It has been shown very difficult to solve the traditional flowshop scheduling problem. This thesis provides a general framework and problem formulation for the simplification of intractable flowshop scheduling problem. The result ensures that using simple scheduling rules will be sufficient to operate the system. The impact of scheduling decisions is also studied to investigate the potential benefits of simplifying the scheduling problem. An application to the production planning problem is illustrated. The results indicate the applicability of scheduling simplification. | en |
