Abstract
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of an in-service education model in changing certain attitudes of academic teachers involved in a vocationally oriented program for low achieving students. The attitudes of interest were the teachers' attitudes toward: (1) CVAE objectives, (2) CVAE students, (3) CVAE instructional materials, (4) teaching academic subject matter through related vocational concepts, and (5) CVAE in-service education. The in-service programs involved eight days of sessions in each of three regional education service centers in southeast Texas. These sessions were conducted during the Spring Semester, 1972. The participants were to have the opportunity to engage in two types of activities: (1) total group presentations, demonstrations, or involvements, and (2) feedback session in small groups. All participants received a small stipend for each day of attendance. Consultants were from various universities, public schools, and appropriate divisions of Texas Education Agency. At the .05 level of significant, no significant differences were indicated in change of attitudes for the participants, and no significant differences in attitudinal change were indicated when the participants were compared to a non-participating control group. No significant difference in attitudinal change were indicated in comparing years of teaching experience and number of sessions attended, or interactions between these. ...
