Abstract
Establishing the existence of statistically significant hierarchies of academic aptitudes among fields of study sampled by the Graduate Records Examination posed the problem of this study. The purpose for research was therefore to establish empirically the existence of hierarchies among the selected fields of study on both a National and local basis. Hierarchies based on rank ordering of aptitude test mean scores of the GRE were developed to answer two underlying questions: 1. Do statistically significant differences exist among academic fields of study as determined by both verbal and quantitative GRE aptitude test means scores? 2.
