dc.description.abstract | The excess thermodynamic properties of the binary liquid system, ethylene glycol-2-butanone, have been determined at 25°C. The excess Gibbs free energy has a maximum value of 329 cal. mole⁻¹ at 0.525 mole fraction of ketone. The excess enthalpies form a maximum heat of mixing of 261 cal. mole⁻¹. The excess entropies form a maximum of 16 cal. mole⁻¹ at 0.93 mole fraction of ketone and a minimum of -92.5 cal. mole⁻¹ at 0.325 mole fraction of ketone. The refractive indices, excess volumes, viscosities, dielectric constants, and n.m.r. spectra of the system were also determined. An attempt is made to offer a plausible explanation for the observed behavior of the system. | en |
