An experimental apparatus, based on the Burnett mixing experiments, was designed and constructed for measuring the cross second virial coefficient (B12). In this isothermal experiment, two pure fluids are fed to separate cells and their loading pressures are measured. Next, the fluids are mixed and the pressure after mixing is measured. These data together with pure-component compressibility data, which were obtained previously with the same apparatus, allows determination of B12. Experimental B12 values for the ethane-propane pair were measured at 350, 400 and 450 K (-191, -148 and -116 cm^3mol^-1, respectively) with a precision of [plus or minus]3 cm^3mol^-1. Data analysis for the Burnett mixing experiment follows the procedure described by Holste et al. (1980, 1982).en
