Retirement Plan Choice and Public Pension Reform
Abstract
Despite the private sector’s switch to defined contribution retirement plans, traditional defined benefit pension plans remain dominant in the public sector. In this issue of PERCspectives on Policy, authors Dennis Jansen, Liqun Liu and Andrew Rettenmaier discuss the chronic underfunding of defined benefit plans and take a closer look at the state of several Texas pensions. They share how defined contribution plans and hybrid plans are popular among new hires when they are given the option.
