dc.description.abstract | Differential detection (DD) is an attractive simple technique in flat-fading environments since it is very robust and does not require carrier phase tracking. However, performance of the conventional DD method in flat-fading channels is limited by an irreducible error floor if the fading bandwidth is larger than zero. Decision-feedback differential detection (DF-DD) is found to be a very effective method to reduce such an error floor with a very low computational complexity. In this thesis, we first apply the DF-DD technique to Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems. We then develop the DF-DD receiver for single carrier systems employing two transmit antennas and space-time block coding. Finally, we develop the DF-DD receiver for space-time coded OFDM systems. The performance of the receiver algorithm developed here is demonstrated by computer simulations. | en |
