Abstract
In this thesis a simulation model for inter-Emulated LAN (ELAN) communication using Multi-Protocol Over ATM (MPOA) technology is developed. The network traffic generators for the model are discussed on the basis of packet-train model. The traffic characterization is done using the session inter-arrival time, packet inter-arrival time and packet size. An underlying ATM switched network is modeled and the functionality of Local Area Network Emulation (ANE) and MPOA components is implemented on the devices connected to this network. The workload characterization and the MPOA threshold logic check sequence is implemented in the sources connected to these devices. Preliminary runs are executed on the model and analyzed. This model can further be utilized to simulate LANE and MPOA operations and compare their performance.
