dc.description.abstractThis thesis describes the research into the turbulent mixing by Rayleigh-Taylor Instability in a water channel experiment. A theoretical description of this mixing phenomenon is presented by means of special transport equations which attempt to model the vector and scalar transport in an unstable density stratification. Experiments were performed to obtain spectra of the density variations in an evolving mixing layer. Simulations based on a recent spectral transport model were compared with experimental results.en
