dc.description.abstract | The objective of the current research is to develop aphics. and demonstrate the efficacy of an adaptive multigrid coarsening strategy to accelerate the convergence of steady state solutions to convection-dominated equations. The adaptive coarsening is developed within the context of a V-cycle multigrid algorithm applied to a structured grid. The smoothing properties of conventional fixed coarsening strategies, using an optimal damping multistage scheme, coarsening strategy is established. are studied and the necessity for an adaptive Based on the analysis, an adaptive coarsening strategy has been developed for the convection-diffusion equation. Numerical tests are performed, on uniform as well as clustered grids, to compare the performance of the algorithm with conventional coarsening strategies. The results indicate that the adaptive coarsening algorithm performs better than the conventional coarsening strategies. | en |
