Abstract
Single isomer sulfated cyclodextrins permit the rographics. capillary electrophoretic separation of neutral, acidic and basic enantiomers. However, in order to obtain thermodynamically meaningful complex formation constants between these cyclodextrins and the enantiomers of interest, the ionic strength of the system has to be kept constant while varying the concentration of the charged cyclodextrins. This is best achieved by using an ionic strength compensating agent that has the same number of permanent charges as the charged cyclodextrin. This thesis outlines a method for the synthesis of such an ionic strength compensating agent: octasulfated tripentaerythritol. This compound was characterized by indirect UV detection capillary electrophoresis, IH and 13C NMR, and Eel-mass spectroscopy.
