This thesis presents the results obtained from crographics. generation of high repetition rate, high peak power output pulses using an erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA). Two configurations were employed. The first setup used a linear cavity. The second setup used a ring cavity. A polarization controller and a temperature-controlled chamber were also employed to stabilize the output. The signal laser was modulated to produce pulses with the highest possible repetition rate and the highest possible peak power. The linear cavity laser produced pulses with repetition rates as high as 128 MHz and a peak power of 6 mW. The ring cavity laser produced pulses with repetition rates as high as 1 GHz and a peak power of 36 mW.en
