The kinetics of enzyme-catalyzed esterification of triglycerides over immobilized lipase in n-hexane was investigated. The reaction kinetics were described in terms of a mechanism developed following the Langmuir-Hinshelwood-Hougen-Watson (LHHW) approach with surface reaction as the rate-controlling step. Sets of data obtained from batch experiments were used to determine the kinetic parameters. A good description of the esterification reaction by the suggested kinetic mechanism was achieved. The reaction was then run in a fixed bed flow reactor and the reactor performance was predicted using the batch reactor kinetics.en
