Abstract
A Bos taurus X Bos gaurus Interspecific Hybrid Backcross panel offers the alielic variability necessary to map the highly conserved Type I anchor loci, thus allowing improved resolution of the bovine genome map. This application has been successful in mouse genome mapping and has been shown to be useful in bovine genome mapping, as well. There are 14 anchor loci thought to be on bovine chromosome 5. The use of the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) combined with Single Stranded Conformation Variation (SSCV) gels have uncovered the order of five anchor genes. The five anchor loci and five previously mapped Type 11 microsatellites are in the following order: BM6026-MGF-BL23-PFKM ETH10-IGF1- BMS1248-CYP2D@-KRAS2-ETH2. A somatic cell hybrid panel, developed for use in physical mapping, has syntenically shown that MGF maps to bovine chromosome 5.
