An experimental investigation has been conducted to determine the critical heat flux for subcooled refrigerant-11 and refrigerant-113 flowing upward in a vertical cylindrical tube. Critical heat flux (CHF) values are determined for a range of tube diameters, tube lengths, and mass flow rates. Methods of developing predictive correlations for subcooled critical heat flux based on dimensional analysis, and the sublayer dryout model, are described and applied to the data from these experiments. When compared with the data from the current experimental investigation, along with water CHF data from a previous study, the three predictive methods are able to correlate the data with comparable accuracy. The predictive method based on the sublayer dryout model is expected to be applicable beyond the range of experimental parameters considered in the current study.en
