Abstract
This study examined the relations among mothers' attributions about their children's behaviors, mothers' perceptions of their relationships with their own parents, and current parenting behavior. Specifically, a mediational model was tested to determine whether attributions mediate the relation between attachment experiences and parenting behavior, Participants were 41 mothers of children (ages 3 to 10) with conduct problems who completed questionnaires and whose parenting behaviors were observed by raters. The data does not support the mediational model, but suggests that perceived relationship experiences with one's father are related to later parenting practices. In particular, reports of positive relationship experiences with one's father are related to current parental acceptance (e.g., enjoyment of one's child, acceptance, playing with child) of one's own child.
