dc.description.abstract | The Philippine market town of Dagupan City has recently experienced a substantial transformation in its trade community. This thesis examines the effects the introduction of new retail institutions have had on the town especially among local traders. After the formulation of an hypothesis and discussion of general issues, a history of the community prior to 1990 will be examined followed by the reactions to these changes by community vendors. Although the thesis focuses on the community life of Dagupan City, it has implications for the urban life of less developed countries, in general. | en |
