The goal of this research was to determine if S02 emissions from coal-fired power plants could be contributing to the copper deficiency in cattle. Copper deficiency in cattle can result from excessive sulfur intake which is attributed to the consumption of high sulfur forage. The Industrial Source Complex Long-Term (ISCLT2) dispersion model was used to predict atmospheric deposition Of S02 emissions from coal-fired power plants. The modeling results suggest that sulfur deposition from a power plant can range from 0 to more than 300 kg/ha. Two field trips were conducted to collect soil and forage samples to determine if S02 emissions from coal-fired power plants are causing an increase in sulfur content of forage through the dry deposition Of S02 to the soil and/or bv the intake Of S02 through the stomata. The data from both sampling trips did not show a statistically significant relationship to prove this hypothesis.en
