There are several different types of single to three phase converters for induction motors available today. However, many of the presently available phase converters suffer from disadvantages such as high cost or low performance. An economical single to three phase converter for induction motors is presented which overcomes many of these disadvantages. The proposed phase converter is analyzed and design equations are given. Methods to improve its power factor are discussed. Finally, details of the implementation of a prototype of the proposed phase converter are presented, and experimental results are shown.en
