Abstract
Advances in the microprocessor technology provided a path for new approaches to protective relay designs. Digital relaying algorithms are implemented in the relays for making fault/no-fault decisions. The relays were used to implement a variety of protection schemes as well. New developments introduced the need for elaborate relay testing. Commercial equipment for relay testing could perform both steady state and dynamic phasor testing of relays. Equipment for transient testing, known as digital simulators due to their capability of generating fault waveforms, have also been developed. User interface software in digital simulators is rather limited. This thesis concentrates on the development of a signal processing and file management software for use with digital simulators.
