The research described in this dissertation concerns the investigation of selected 6-mercaptopurine metallo complexes. Syntheses are developed, the compounds are screened for anti-carcinogenic activity in two in vivo leukemia systems and then are tested for their effects upon the activity of adenosine deaminase (E.C. 3.5.4.4) in rat tissues. A colorimetric assay is used, complemented by an enzyme peak-shift procedure using reversed-phase high pressure liquid chromatography. Treatment with these drugs is found to have no effect upon the activity of this enzyme in selected rat tissues.en
