Abstract
This dissertation is the documentation of a process by which a faculty structure was designed for an existing Post Secondary Technical Institute. This process involved faculty members and mid-administrators in a lengthy procedure of preparing position descriptions for instructional personnel, both professional and paraprofessional. The product is a ranking system which is characterized by a clearly defined instructional career ladder, instructional role, responsibilities, authorities and qualifications. This structure has been designed to meet the needs of the student body, provide career opportunities for faculty members, aid in fulfilling the intent of the Equal Employment Opportunity Act, support compliance of the Equal Pay Act, develop better methods of delivering instructional services, and maximize the use of available instructional facilities.
