A broad-range trochoidal spectrometer, which has been used previously for prompt and delayed in-beam studies of conversion-electron spectra, has been adapted for use in the coincidence mode. After initial development of the technique in off-line experiments, an e-y coincidence study was performed in beam to obtain data for interband transitions in ¹⁵⁴Gd. Several different properties of the spectrometer, such as the electron time of flight, were measured during the initial development. The results of the in-beam experiment on ¹⁵⁴Gd are discussed with reference to the backbending phenomenon observed in some high-spin nuclear states.en
