Abstract
Purpose. The purpose of this study was to determine if differences existed between successful professional medical technologists, clinical year medical technology students, pre-medical technology students, dropout medical technology students and non-medical technology students with regard to work values and personal orientation. Procedure. Two data gathering instruments were employed in this study. One was the Work Values Inventory (WVI) which was constructed to assess the values which motivate man to work. The other was the Personal Orientation Inventory which measures positive mental health as reflected in concepts of self-actualization. The WVI and POI were administered to each group and the results were compiled. That data were subjected to discriminant analysis for intercomparison of the five groups. For all the WVI and POI scales that showed significant univariate F-rat1os, specific group comparisons were made using the Student-Newman-Keuls' Test. Finally, medical technology students as a group (clinical year medical technology students and pre-medical technology students) were contrasted with non-medical technology students, drop-out medical technology students and professional medical technologists..
