Abstract
Purpose The purpose of this study was to assess the vocational and social status of professional football players. This assessment was accomplished by determining the general characteristics, educational status, vocational standing, and sociological attitude of individuals playing professional football during the 1972 season. A sub-problem of the study was to make a comparison between the vocational and social status of professional football players of 1949 and those of 1972. A second sub-problem was to determine any existing relationships between selected variable present. Procedure The Texas A&M University Vocational Inventory and Socio-Sport Profile Instrument for Professional Football Player was developed with the assistance of active professional football players and specialists in the area of sport sociology.
