Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of publications on faculty promotion and tenure as perceived by deans, department heads, and selected faculty in schools and colleges of education in Texas colleges and universities. The population was defined as the 32 public and private four-year colleges and universities in Texas having organizational hierarchy involving faculty, department heads or chairpersons, and a dean of a school or college of education. The sample included all deans and department heads and a stratified sample of the education faculty selected according to rank. Of the 241 in the sample, 164 provided usable responses to the survey instrument developed and validated specifically for this study. Descriptive data was analyzed through the use of frequency distributions. Analysis of variance was used to determine the statistical relationships in comparisons of groups apportioned by institutional position, by size of the institution, by origin of funding, and by highest institutional award in education.
