Abstract
This study investigated the role of the superintendent in a school building program. The objectives of this research were to (a) identify the role of the superintendent in a school building program, (b) provide a basic reference for superintendents to follow when a building program becomes necessary, (c) contribute to the literature available concerning a school building program, (d) identify the various phases of a school building program, (e) establish a chronological schedule of all decisions and steps taken from a building program's inception by the board of trustees to the dedication of the building, and (f) secure school superintendents' opinions of a school building program. The procedure adopted for this study included (a) surveying written literature pertaining to building programs, (b) incorporating in the study actual experience gained by the author in conducting a school building program, (c) presenting information received from questionnaires answered by other superintendents who had been involved in a building program, and (d) examining laws and bills, passed or proposed, which have a bearing on school building programs. These four methods were used for the purpose of developing a treatise which a superintendent might use when faced with the challenge of a school building program. ...
