This dissertation investigates statistical tests for comparing two or more independent Markov Renewal Processes. Tests are derived by extending statistical methods of Markov Chains to the Markov Renewal Processes. Tests are developed for (1) comparison of transition probabilities for various holding time conditions and (2) comparison of holding time distributions for various conditions on transition probabilities. The tests are illustrated and evaluated using simulated data representing (1) vehicular traffic on highways and (2) verbal behavior of students and teachers in classrooms. Applications of the tests are discussed as well as suggested areas of future research on statistical methods for Markov Renewal Processes.en
