Abstract
The objective of this study was to forecast those critical tasks that planning and evaluation specialists in Texas Regional Education Service Centers will be expected to perform in the immediate or near future, and to make certain recommendations based on data collected and analyzed. This purpose was accomplished by: (1) reviewing pertinent literature relating to national and state trends in planning and evaluation, specifically as this function relates to intermediate educational units; (2) reviewing literature related to use of the Delphi and Ariole as futuristic research techniques; (3) generating critical tasks, assessing priorities and time estimates of implementation through the use of the Delphi, and refining this data through a series of iterations; (4) analyzing this data based on the fourth or consensus round of the Delphi; and (5) submitting this data and analysis to a Decision Panel for final reaction and recommendations (Ariole phase). A propositional inventory based on the review of literature was developed. A second propositional inventory based on the results of the Delphi and Ariole was developed. These Inventories were compared for similarities and differences.
