Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the motivations for work and the reasons for moving of the teachers in Seventh-day Adventist secondary schools in the United States. The Herzberg approach was used since it offered an indirect means of determining motives. The study involved sending questionnaires to a sample of 70 teachers and asking them to describe two events -- one that made them very happy about teaching, and one that made them very unhappy in their work. These teachers were then asked to describe the effects of their feelings upon their work, and the effects of their feelings about their work upon their career. The purpose of these latter probes was to determine the extent of change in work relationships caused by changes in attitudes toward the work. ...
