Abstract
Species of the genus Endalus have been reported to occur in North and South America, Tasmania and Africa. Thirteen species are recognized in the present study from America north of Mexico. Two new species are described and one name is placed in synonymy. Ten species of Onychylis are found in Central and North America. Six of these occur in America north of Mexico. The genus Endalus is separable into two major groups on the basis of a number of morphological and biological characters. Each major group may be further subdivided into several subgroups on the basis of male genitalia and food plants of adult weevils. Five species of the limatulus-setosus Group are associated with species of Marsilea (Marsileaceae: Pteridophyta), while species of the ovalis-laticollis Group are found on certain genera of Cyperaceae. Biological and distributional information and keys to all species of the genus Endalus which occur in America north of Mexico are provided. Illustrations of the median lobe and the spermatheca of each species are included. ...
