dc.description.abstractThis study reports the writer's findings about the time domain and frequency domain characteristics of the electromagnetic interference produced by the small-dimension, low root-mean-square current sparks which exist between metallic items on electric power lines. The physics of the discharge is discussed and an explanation is given for the very short formation time, the narrow pulse width, and the rapid rate of decay of the spark. A measured plot is shown of the time domain waveform of the conducted spark current. This waveform is then used to calculate the coefficients of a Fourier series in order to give a mathematical expression in the frequency domain. ...en
