Abstract
On the basis of fundamental relationships of chemical engineering and the information available from the design prints of the process, a mathematical model for a system of evaporators at unsteady state operation was developed. The model was solved using numerical methods for various upsets in the process variables in order to observe the dynamic behavior of the system of evaporators. The steady state and unsteady state dynamic behavior calculated from the model agreed well with the observed behavior of a 17-effect evaporator system. The field test were made on the Freeport Demonstration Unit, located at Freeport, Texas. The plant consisted of 17 LTV (long tube vertical) evaporators of the falling film type with feed preheaters and condensate flash-tanks.
