Abstract
The purpose of the study was to evaluate the relative effectiveness of two approaches to teaching college algebra in achieving those objectives of college algebra in industrial technology curricula which can be pursued in a college algebra course for general education. The one semester experiment was designed to test the null hypothesis of no significant difference in the effectiveness of the two teaching approaches. The experiment involved the comparison of the traditional approach to teaching college algebra and an experimental approach which placed increased emphasis on applications of mathematics to motivate students to higher levels of interest and understanding. ...
