Abstract
Purpose Literature concerning the content, direction, and definition of industrial arts is dichotomous in nature. To alleviate this problem, this study developed a rationale for the selection, organization, and the activation of learning activities for industrial arts, which achieves humane competencies directly useful in the lives and careers of people. Procedure Philosophical and psychological bases were identified to facilitate the development of models for curriculum derivation (analysis of transactions) and instruction. Competencies that a person needs to cope with the phenomenal technological world were generated and placed in the format of a questionnaire. The initial questionnaire was then submitted to a jury of professionals for validation of the items. The questionnaire, concerning what competencies should be a part of the industrial arts curriculum, was given to industrial arts personnel participating in the Texas Industrial Arts Curriculum Study Workshops in the State of Texas. It was administered in regional workshops.
