Abstract
Interchange monosomes, which have segments of two non-homologous chromosomes and hence form a chain of three chromosomes at MI of meiosis, are fertile and readily transmissible in Gossypium hirsutum. Tests for chromosome identification made by crossing five interchange monosomes with one or more of ten known homozygous interchange testers (involving twelve chromosomes) indicated that the following chromosomes were involved: T3-9, T4-15, T5-x and T6-x. Of the six chromosomes identified, four have not been recovered as simple monosomes. This suggests that recovery in interchange monosomes is at random and increases the possibility of obtaining all chromosomes of the complement as interchange monosomes.
