Abstract
The first specific objective of this study was to describe the historical development of the science of administration with special reference to the application of theory and principles of administration and to the development of academic administrative training programs. The second objective was to design a model administrative training program which can be used effectively to contribute to the training and preparation of new and prospective academic administrators. A further objective was to determine if criteria exist which are used by top-level academic administrators in identifying prospective administrative talent. Through the realization of the objectives, it was anticipated that a direct contribution could be made to the development of a body of knowledge in higher education relating to the identification and preparation of academic administrators. ...
