A general method of preparation of the salts of the chlorozincate, bromozincate and iodozincate ions has been proposed and illustrated. The salts listed below have been prepared, analyzed, and characterized. Tetrachlorozincate salts: [listed on PDF], Tetrabromozincate salts [listed on PDF], Tetraiodosincate salts [listed on PDF]. These compounds were analyzed for total sine and halide ion concentrations} and the results compared with the theoretical amounts calculated from the formula for the pure tetrahalosincate complexes. The melting ranges and/or decomposition temperatures of the complexes produced have been determined by standard techniques. A study of the ionic equilibrium involved has been attempted using potentiometric methods. It has been shown that an analysis of this nature is not practicable utilizing silver-silver halide indicating electrodes. The apparent failure of this technique is due to the instability of the indicating electrodes in the media used and to the relatively small differences measured among the comparatively large potentials. The polarographic study of the formation constants of each of the three types of halozincates formed has confirmed the general data previously reported. In addition, a unique behavior has been observed for the diffusion current of the chlorozincate ions and possible explanations of this behavior have been proposed.en
